Kitchen Window 10/31/2003 9:25 PMI replaced the window in my kitchen sometime in the summer of 2003. Only now, at the end of October, have I finished the project. The previous window was an out-of-sorts crank-style. The top half didn't open at all, while the bottom half opened outwards about 6" and had no screen. It was not very energy efficient and the crank was all but completely stripped. The new window is a double hung vinyl Argon gas high-E sort of thing. The sashes even fold down for "easy cleaning". It rarely occurs to me to clean windows, though. The first day was spent removing the old window, which required many tools and lots of destruction. It was not obvious, after the old one was removed, how the new one was going to fit, so we covered the gaping hole and went to sleep. The next day I started adding wood to the rough opening to better fit the new window and, eventually, we got it in. Then, four months later, I finished the interior trim work and painted it.
