Atari Punk Console
atari_punk_console_schem_556
This is a simple circuit built around a 556 (which is two 555 timers on the same chip) which generates delicious square waves. I want to build several of these and cycle through them (perhaps using a PIC for sequence control). To this end I needed to find a way to easily switch this circuit on & off. I posted a comment soliciting advice in February 07 and, finally, someone gave me some hints (eight months later!):
Jarrin, try a FET instead of a BJT transistor. I like the 2N5484 (the 5485 and 5486 work too). Put a 1M or so across the D and S for biasing, and run a control voltage into the G. See the triwave picogenerator schematic (uses two 555’s)

I think I'll try just that.
