Burning Man '05
9/30/2005 4:45 PM

I have about two hundred pictures to share with the worldhood of the world. They've been organized into seven vague categories which I will upload and caption over time.

I've also included links to a handful of image galleries that a few of my friends took. Now get to work and email me with any corrections (I can be kinda sloppy when I'm captioning two-hundred odd images).

 Robot Giraffe Walking

A 21 sec video of a walking robot giraffe.

Image Gallery: Highlights
Ten highlights from the event - these will get you started. Then check out the other 200 pictures to develop a better impression.
The Man, towering above. Andy and her parasol. Clockworks. Carrie, Sean and Andy, outside the Temple of Dreams. Matt (and Sarah) relaxing in my mutant boudoir. Colossus! Sean, stepping out of the orange room of seventy reflections. Me, at the bottom of the 24' climbable spire known as "Hypha". Burlesque escapees. The burning of the Temple.

Image Gallery: One - The Beginning
Departure from Minneapolis and some of the first day.
And, of course, we ran into some other burners making their way to Black Rock City. Zell, Emily & Andy waiting patiently on my boulevard for us to get shit underway. Scott, surveying the landscape. He did an excellent job with the tie-down straps on our makeshift trailer. The BRBC's "Camp Sean": Sean. (aka, spongemonkey) Finally we arrive at the playa. This is our neighbors, the BRBC's (99.1 FM!) camp. The central dome is the communcal space, to the left is the radio station, to the right is the kitchen and behind is the shade structures for everyone's tents (which didn't work out quite as well as planned).

Image Gallery: Two - The Art
It's an Art Festival, really.
View of The Man from Clocktower. The Clocktower was put to the torch on Sunday night (midnight, after the Temple burn) but I didn't know that at the time and, consequently, missed it entirely. At the point, Scott and I were trying to tie down our trailer for the ride home (it was very dark and very windy and made for quite an adventure; but we got it done). Andy, making some breakfast (probably oatmeal). The Clocktower. Colossus. It weighs somewhere around 20-25 tons, stands almost 50' tall and it can be spun.

Image Gallery: Three - The Man
The Man rose above a three level structure. The first level was a maze, on the second you could observer and interact with those in the maze and on the third level you could (at night) phsyically rotate the Man.
Lights and such. The Man. A room full of True Mirrors (and the artist currently at work fixing one of them). Me, again, in the same mirrow as last time. Finally, a picture of me atop the Man's platform.

Image Gallery: Four - Playa Art
Temple of Dreams (with spongemonkey). Spider Car. Sarah! Surprised! Andy outside the Temple of Dreams. Refridgerators. This one was filled with playdoh creations.

Image Gallery: Five - More Art
Art abounds; here's some more.
Horse Wheels. A giraffe! The expanse of the playa (note dust devil on left side). Those blue things house televisions which, I'm told, playing videos of people talking about their dreams. The mouth, I'm also told, is some kind of bed. The Dicky box. A guy named Dicky stayed inside this box for the entire duration. Image Gallery: Six - Fun Things To Do
Center camp & stuff at night.
Oh noes! Center camp. Andy & Juggling Matt That guy was possible the creator of the Phoenix. I think he was asking people to play with the controls. The hyper-awesome walking robotic giraffe.

Image Gallery: Seven - Final Day
Some more art, the Temple burns down and we all race home.
CATBUS!!! Damn, I had my camera on the wrong mode and didn't realize it for several pictures. I lost my only picture of the awesome Chesire Cat car, the four "police officers" who gave my mutant boudoir a "police escort" around the suburbs, a couple pictures of the super-cool VW van-cum-burn platform and who knows what else! (It happened around Gigsville, so it was stuff over there that I have no record - and therefore no memor... A view of the Temple (et al) from atop the 24' Hypha. Sarah and Matt stop by to say good-bye. Unfortunately, we were hella-busy right then so I didn't get to say very much. They left before the Temple burn. :( The Screaming Yellow Zonkers! command you.
