Motor & Batteries
4/19/2006 7:05 PM

I went to Ax-Man just to browse their motor selection. I didn't actually expect to find anything I wanted to use there but it would have foolish of me not to at least look. After looking up and down two rows of inadequate 120vac motors (I didn't want to have to rely on 2000' of extension cord) I was ready to give up when, at the very end of one of the aisles, I happened upon just the right thing. I almost didn't even pick it up but it's a good thing I did because then I would have never found the half dozen Parvalux 24 vdc, 200 watt permanent magnet motors with attached 320 rpm gearboxes.

As far as I can tell this is the kind of motor that gets used on motorized wheelchairs. A pair of them will give my 400watts of power (which is equivalent to just over 1/2 horsepower) which I think should be enough power to propel me, the chair, the motors, their batteries and a small, attractive girl without stalling the motors and shorting out the controller.
