| | The Root of the Problem 2/21/2008 2:19 PM | | The root of the problem. | The basement drain was backing up again but this time it was accompanied by unpleasant flotsam and effluvium. I tried the little 15' snake but it didn't do a thing. The local hardware store had big rooters for rent so I brought home the big one. The 100' snake. After sending it down (and running out nearly all of the 100' which, I'm sure, was entirely unnecessary) and bringing it up it became quite clear that the blockage was tree roots.
A couple more runs with various cutting and cleaning bits and we should be in business (which primary means I can finally do some laundry).

Mom Geez. I remember when we had to hire a plumber because our drains were backing up & then another time when some plumber was in the area & sent out flyers to get your drains rotorrooted as a precautionary measure. I wasn't aware you could do that kind of thing yourself. Glad you've got it solved! You do like snakes! Wednesday, February 27, 2008 3:59 PM from
jarrin It's a simple, yet unpleasant, process. A $55 rental and a couple hours of time has got to be a lot cheaper than hiring a real plumber. Add a comment:
